About Naturopathic Medicine

How can naturopathic medicine help me?

Sometimes, additional information is necessary and symptom management with medications alone is not enough.

A distinction exists between our conventional Ontario medical system and the approach of a naturopathic doctor. One notable difference is in testing – OHIP covers tests that are publicly funded and are only considered when “medically necessary”. While this system suits many individuals, there are occasions when more information is needed. Through a naturopathic viewpoint and extended appointment lengths, we can assess if additional measures might help us get more answers and address all areas of your life and health that may have been overlooked in the conventional health system.

What sets NDs apart from other complementary health practitioners or a family doctor?

Naturopathic Doctors are qualified to diagnose conditions, conduct physical exams, and order specific blood work and laboratory tests. Naturopathic Doctors are skilled in treating a variety of ailments, ranging from gastrointestinal disorders to metabolic conditions such as weight management, diabetes, and cardiovascular issues, as well as conditions involving hormonal changes such as hypothyroidism, perimenopause, and menopause.

Naturopathic Doctors are highly trained in natural medicine and utilize a range of natural therapies like clinical nutrition, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle counseling. In addition, Dr. Parsi ND is able to prescribe bio-identical hormones and desiccated thyroid medication.

Services

What can I expect in a visit?

Your initial visit will last approximately 60-75 minutes. It will involve a thorough health history review, a physical examination (if necessary), and a conversation about your health objectives and expectations. Further tests might be required, and any recent tests from your family doctor may be requested. These steps will guide our progress in your path to wellness.

A follow-up visit is usually arranged 2-4 weeks after your first appointment to go over the results, plan your treatment, and get you set on your journey towards improved health.

What kind of testing is available?

Naturopathic doctors in Ontario have access to a lot of testing options, but testing is not meant to be used as a random search tool. The purpose of testing is to help confirm a diagnosis or change the course of our treatment. Some test options include utilizing conventional labs like LifeLabs for blood, stool, and urine tests, as well as SIBO testing, H. pylori, fecal calprotectin, and others. Insurance may cover some tests.
